“Hey, dad.”

“Hi, sweetheart,” he murmurs. “Are you busy?”

“I’m having lunch,” I reply. “Then at the clinic till four or so.”

“Can you come over after? I have some people I want you to meet.”

“Sounds ominous.”

“My parents are here,” he tells me. “Your grandparents.” Shit. I’m worried, but my wolf is overjoyed. She wants to go now. Another set of people she loves and wants to meet. People that we’ve been denied.

“Lottie,” my dad says urgently.

“We’re coming over now,” Dillon tells him. He’s taken my phone. “Give us a few minutes.”

“Are you sure?”

Dillon laughs. “Yes, I’m sure.”

“Let me cancel your appointments,” Wyatt promises. “Rhett and I will go meet with the twins. Have fun.”

“Love you,” Rhett adds. He kisses my forehead and the two leave.

“I’ll head to Lupine Valley too,” Elijah murmurs. “Rude of those two assholes not to wait for me. I have patients.”

“Okay,” I whisper. Elijah disappears, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he beats the other two to Lupine Valley.

“We can go now,” Warren offers. I nod, and the three of us shift. My wolf is excited, but I am so nervous. It doesn’t take long, and when we arrive, I shift immediately.

“Hey, honey,” my mum greets. I hug her nervously. “You look nice.”

“You too,” I reply. “How’s things?”

She pales, seeming nervous. “Amazing. Glad you’re here though.”

“What’s wrong?” I ask mentally. I can’t sense my dad in the house, but that doesn’t mean someone else isn’t home, and they’re the reason she’s on edge.

“Nothing,” she promises. Out loud, she asks, “what have you been doing today?”

“I was at Crescent Peak.” I shrug. “At the clinic. Rhett has some drama going on, but I think he’s going to talk to dad today.” My mum nods.

“Where’s Everett?” Warren asks after he gets hugged by my mum.

“Picking his parents up from the airport,” she mutters. Oh. Now I see the tension. She doesn’t like them, or at the very least, they have her on edge.

“You don’t like them?” Warren questions.

“No,” she groans.

“That’s fine,” Warren laughs. “Lottie and my parents have a mutual dislike.”

“Lottie and your mum,” Dillon corrects. “Your dad loves her.”

“In-laws.” My mum sighs and I burst out laughing.

“Break out the wine,” I tell her.

“They don’t approve of Luna’s drinking.”

I groan. “Definitely not my kind of people. I want wine anyway. I don’t really care what they think.”

“Way to go,” my mum teases. “They’re not going to get upset at their only grandchild.”

“Mum, if you’re going to live your life worrying about them, then you’re going to be miserable,” I lecture. “Besides, don’t they live in Golden Eclipse?”

“Yes,” she mutters. “But we only really see them once a week at family dinner.”

“You do family dinner?” I ask softly.

“Yes. We’ll be starting it back up now that they’re home.” I nod, and I wonder if I’m going to be invited. “Don’t be silly, of course, we’re inviting you, honey. You’re family.” I smile, and sit at the counter, my mates following, and my mum grabs us both a large glass of wine before sitting down too.
